ACIL reaches the CUSP of agency business

23 September 2008

AUSTRALIAN CONSOLIDATED Insurance Limited has formed an independent underwriting agency group management company, Consolidated Underwriting Services Pty Limited (CUSP).

Wayne Miller, managing director of ACIL, said: “CUSP will provide the management services to deliver an exceptional quality service to our broker clients initially promoting the underwriting brands of CEMAC Pty Ltd, Aurora Underwriting Agency Pty Limited and Aurora Underwriting Agency Ltd (NZ).”

Current CEO of Aurora and CEMAC, William Legge has been promoted CEO/director of CUSP.

Well known industry executive Philip Hawkes becomes business development manager for the company.

In Western Australia, Russell Bresland has been appointed CEO - WA, Consolidated Underwriting Services Pty Limited, with the office opening in October.

Mr Miller said the aim of the CUSP was for efficiency in delivering a one stop shop for brokers in most states of Australia and New Zealand.

He told INAcom this would be a major step in improving services. At the same time ACIL would be looking toward organic growth and not by major acquisition.

Progressively CUSP would open offices in Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne from October through to January next year.

CUSP would manage the long awaited expansion of CEMAC into WA and the progressive release of the following Lloyd’s of London and Australian insurer backed classes by Aurora Underwriting Agency.

These would be Legal Expenses; Property (middle market focus); Professional Risks (specialist industry tailored programs); Construction and others to follow.

He said many brokers would not be familiar with Aurora as it has been underwriting association liability, business package and professional risk classes through specific marketing channels in Australia.

ACIL would be communicating directly to its broker clients details of CUSP and the products and access to its personnel over the next few weeks.

Broker enquiries were to be directed to Philip Hawkes, mobile 0405 428 931, and corporate enquiries to be directed to Wayne Miller, (08) 9287 0400 or

ACIL bought Cemac last January 31 and Aurora last November.
